A Monday Liturgy for the Weary Worker
All is vanity!!! I need Jesus (and coffee).
Call:
Lord, this is the morning when I am usually most alive-
awake to Your goodness, eager for purpose, ready to begin.
But today my spirit feels thin.
The promise of the week has dimmed before it even began.
Response:
Renew me.
Call:
I step into a place where direction is unclear,
where demands come without guidance,
where accusations hide behind polite words,
where meetings multiply like weeds.
I confess that it feels pointless,
and I am tempted to believe that nothing real happens here.
Response:
Steady my imagination.
Call:
Lift my eyes above the silliness of corporate performance.
Lift my heart above the passive‑aggressive rituals.
Lift my mind above the hollow metrics and the endless updates.
Let me see the unseen kingdom that quietly fills this space.
Response:
Let me see Your reality.
Call:
Where others bring pressure, let me bring peace.
Where others bring veiled demands, let me bring clarity.
Where others bring self‑importance, let me bring humility.
Where others bring cynicism, let me bring hope.
Response:
Make me a different presence.
Call:
Remind me that You did not place me here to admire the work,
but to love the people.
Not to celebrate the projects,
but to carry Your presence.
Not to find meaning in the tasks,
but to bring meaning to the room.
Response:
Anchor me in my true calling.
Call:
When I feel the hollowness of this place,
let it not lead me to despair,
but to deeper dependence.
Let the boredom become a doorway to prayer.
Let the frustration become a reminder of Your patience.
Let the smallness of the work reveal the largeness of Your kingdom.
Response:
Transform my vision.
Call:
I offer You this Monday-
its disappointments, its dullness, its early discouragement.
Fill what feels empty.
Strengthen what feels weak.
And let me begin this week not with excitement,
but with faithfulness.
Response:
Amen.
For the Post-It on the computer:
Lord, steady me as I begin. Clear my mind. Guard my heart. Let me see the people, not the performance. Let me carry Your presence into every room. Make me faithful in small things. Make me peaceful in tense things. Make me hopeful in hollow things. I offer You this day. Amen.
